Midwest Security & Police Expo 2009 Addresses Public Safety Issues in 20+ Free Conference Sessions

ROSEMONT, Ill. (July 22, 2009) – Private security, law enforcement and public safety professionals will learn about new techniques pertaining to life-saving issues during the 2009 Midwest Security & Police Conference/Expo (MSPCE), Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 11-12, 2009, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, 5555 N. River Road, Rosemont, Ill.

The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in partnership with ROC Exhibitions, Inc. co-present MSPCE 2009, now in its ninth year. A free conference and expo, MSPCE is the Midwest’s most dynamic industry trade event showcasing cutting-edge educational
and training presentations, as well as networking opportunities. Attendees are chiefs of police and specialists in law enforcement, public safety, safety-security management, sales and marketing, senior management and consulting engineering.

Sponsored by the Illinois Drug Enforcement Officers Association, Sergeant Tom Lorenz, a 25-year veteran with the Glendale (Calif.) Police Department and a 12-year specialist in its narcotics division, will lead an update session on street drugs, including use and paraphernalia, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Among other highlights:

“Autism & Law Enforcement” with Chris Lacey, founder and trainer, Autism Alert, Inc., from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11. Trains first responders to recognize and interact with autistic individuals in a variety of real-life situations.

“Automated License Plate Recognition – A Proactive Tool for Local Law Enforcement” with Sean Tomasz, information technology manager, and Michael Lebert, sales consultant, RedSpeed Illinois, from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11. RedSpeed with discuss the benefits of automated license plate recognition as a technology-based security tool in municipal law enforcement.

“The Ideal Police Officer” with Michael A. Campion, Ph.D., police psychologist, and Thomas R. Campion, Ph.D., public safety consultant, Campion, Barrow and Associates, from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11. In a Justice Department study targeting character-based assessment processes, a research sample from a large Midwest city was asked to list qualities of an ideal police officer. The results were analyzed and statistically factored to reveal 11 key categories. By comparing the candidate to the ideal officer, an assessment that reports the results on a 1-9 scale can be used as an educational tool during field training.

“Creating Trust and Increasing Safety Within Your Latino Community” with Jill Kushner Bishop, Ph.D., founder and president, Workforce Language Services, and Arturo Castro, Lead Facilitator, Workforce Language Services, from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11. Addresses social and cultural aspects of trust and provides concrete ways for departments to improve relationships with their increasingly diverse communities.

“Best Practices in Traffic Photo Enforcement Solutions – Truth and Transparency” with Paul Bazzano, vice president, sales, Gatso USA, from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11. Bazzano will describe best practices to implementing violator-funded traffic photo enforcement programs, while drilling down on four technical elements for success: detection, imaging, encryption and violation processing.
